Variety Outback Ride 2020

This was a special event riding adventure bikes through the outback of NSW and popping just over the border into QLD. The ride was to raise money for the Variety Club NSW. We have all heard of or seen the Variety car rallies where they drive older cars and get dressed up and raise huge amounts of money. This year they organised the Adventure Ride bike rally for those riders who were keen to be a part of this epic bike ride covering close to 3,000 km by the time we were finished. We had 35 riders entering which Read more

This magnificent 28-day tour to this geographically diverse and historically fascinating region promises to be a truly memorable journey through Central Asia! Russia and Scandinavia 2018

I was overawed by Moscow, the Red Square, the Kremlin, Tsar’s palaces, war history, communism, KGB, poverty and long queues for food, I remember thinking what a horrible country to live in. Remnants still exist of most of these today but I was impressed immensely with Moscow and St Petersburg and will put it on my agenda to go back, sooner rather than later. There is so much to see and the few days we had was not long enough. We missed the space museum, Victory Hill and the War Museum. That is just the tip of the iceberg. Read more

Bhutan 2018

How many countries in this world can claim their Gross Domestic Product is “Happiness” Bhutan is the only country who can claim this feat. It’s a little country with only 750,000 inhabitants. It is in a valleys surrounded by the Might Himalayas, it is also a carbon neutral country. You almost want to go and live there. I did a photographic tour with my good friends David Oliver and Peter Eastway. Both Grandmaster photographers who are exceptional and highly regarded in the photographic industry. They constantly banter about which is the best genre, portraiture, David Oliver’s specialty or landscape Read more

Australia 2017

In May through to July 2017 we packed the caravan and headed out to travel down to Bright in Victoria and catch the last of the beautiful autumn colours which make Bright one of the most popular places at this time of the year. Following the Murray we headed for Port Augusta ready for our inland journey up through the centre. One of my favourite places is the painted desert in South Australia just outside of Coober Pedy. Leaving the van at one of the road houses we headed out for the day. This is one of those spectacular Read more

Rajasthan 2016

Magnificent Rajasthan, India Someone has to do it, someone has to get out and do something different. So I did, taking my son Brad with me we headed to ride motorbikes through the beautiful and magnificent land of the Maharajas, incredible fortresses and spectacular palaces and not forgetting the Taj Mahal. We actually met a real Maharaja, we stayed in his Palace, very unassuming and quietly spoken he sat with as dinner and talked about him growing up in the same palace we were sitting in eating dinner. It’s incredible to believe we were sitting with a 10th generation Read more

Tibet 2014

Incredible Tibet This is one of those countries you only dream of going to more so if you are doing it on a motorbike. Very strict entry rules apply as the Chinese are very conscious of the strong followings of the Dali Lama and the unrest that is inbuilt to the native Tibetans. At the airport the go through all of your reading material and anything remotely close to the Deli Lama is confiscated. The security police are very obvious taking photos of everyone who enters main public buildings. Tibet is still very isolated to Europeans and as a Read more

Chilean Fjords October 2007

When I left Tony in Ushuaia earlier in the year to fly home he continued up the Chilean Fjords to Puerto Mont. He left the boat there for the winter with the aim to sail it back to Ushuaia for the summer season taking trips back to Antarctica. I flew back with Tony to Puerto Mont to restock the boat and sail it down to Punta Arenas and then onto Ushuaia. There were 7 of us on the boat this trip including Tony’s new skipper who was to take this summer’s trips back to Antarctica. We set out in Read more

Amazon to Antarctica January 2007

The Mawson’s Hut Antarctic Expedition opened many doors for me and one of the most important was the confidence to step out of my comfort zone. I had never travelled by myself before, in actual fact I hadn’t done a real lot of travel overseas apart from the traditional Canadian trip and European trips. This was really my first solo adventure journey and what a great journey it turned out to be. Reading the Sunday papers I found an advertisement by Peregrine tours for a trip to Mach Picchu and if you wanted there was a side trip up Read more
